New work from the 'Photo-Sythesis' series is featured on the artist web site Artsy Shark. Bob Coates of Bob Coates Photography in Sedona, Arizona has been working on creating this style of imagery for the last few years. According to Coates, "My goal is to create painterly art pieces that have a life of their own. Images that when viewed, have depth and dimension and reveal new details over time, or in different lighting conditions, or when viewed from different distances."
Coates' work has won many awards and has been praised by Professional Photographers of America President Ralph Romaguera, who said, “I enjoy the diversity of Bob’s Work. It’s always good when a photographer can show a variety of skills across many genres of photographic art. My favorite among Bob’s images entered in the Arizona Professional Photographers Association photographic competition was the Purple Iris because of the strong feelings the image evokes.”
“Bob’s work shows amazing artistry...

Sound Bites Grill in Sedona, Arizona have an ongoing relationship with Bob Coates Photography and have asked that a new work be produced for a niche in the restaurant. Coates had previously designed five musical art pieces for the restaurant. These are very popular with the patrons and another niche will contain the same type of art to help carry the musical art theme further. "This piece is based on the guitars of Mark T. Small a fantastic blues player based in Boston, MA," said Coates. "Mark has some incredible instruments including a steel guitar that is just gorgeous. These guitars were on the stage between sets in Sedona and I photographed them just for kicks. When Michele of Sound Bites asked for more music art I thought immediately of them." The guitar art is available for sale in addition to being on display at the restaurant. If you would like to purchase this art click on the link for access. Coates is available for commissioned work. You can contact Bob at...

Musicians are looking to play a gig at Sound Bites Grill in Sedona, Arizona for more than the usual reasons. When they play there they have the possibility of being added to the Sound Bites Wall of Fame.
Lots of places have a gallery of musicians gracing their walls, so what’s different? Photographic Artist, Bob Coates of Bob Coates Photography takes the musician’s photos to a different level by combining lighting techniques, organic textures and state of the art computer skills.
According to Coates, “These are techniques I have been honing over the last three or four years. My goal is to have people say, ‘That looks like a painting!’ Texture, depth and dimension with the feel of an artists’ palette are the goal with an original image capturing the mood and feel of the musicians. I started this technique with my landscape and cityscape work, moved it to the studio and found it also works with the portraits I’ve been creating of...

Sedona Photographer at Imaging USA Convention
Imaging USA is the site of one of the world’s largest International print exhibitions and Coates had three prints he submitted accepted for display in Atlanta. The prints on display were a commercial image of ‘Tlaquepaque in Winter’, and two illustrative images, ‘Flowerscape’ a black and white gerber daisy and ‘Salute to Georgia O’Keeffe’ with an artistic rendition of a cow’s skull over a flower and artistic background. “I will always try my hand each year in print competition,” exclaims Coates. “It makes me push and stretch the limits of my photography knowledge and that’s great for my clients because things change so fast images that would have landed in the PPA Loan Collection a few years ago now might not even make it into the general collection today.”
